Welcome back!

Stretch marks are caused by the loss of elastin and collagen in the skin and although they may diminish over time, they may never go away completely.

Ways to Avoid Stretch Marks While Pregnant

Lots of pregnant women will do everything they know how to avoid stretch marks during pregnancy but will still end up with them.

The optimal thing one can do is to prevent them from forming in the first place, although this may not be doable for everyone. The truth is that if one of your patents had them, more than likely you’ll get them also however you can lessen their appearance.

Tip #1

Moisturize Your Skin

Keeping your skin moisturized is one of the very best things you can do for your skin.

When the skin is over stretched the dermis tears causing stretch marks. Moisturized skin is more supple and elastic allowing it to stretch much easier than skin that is dry, cracked and pealing.

You should moisturize your skin at least 3 times daily and make sure you let the cream or lotion dry before you put on your clothes.

Although it’s a good idea to moisturize your whole body, if you’re using a cream especially designed for stretch marks, these are the areas you should concentrate on:

* The arms

* The breasts

* The stomach

* The thighs

* The buttocks

The appearance of stretch marks will decrease in most women over a period of time.

As stated above application of cocoa butter, shea butter and other types of creams especially developed for stretch marks such as Revitol and TriLASTIN-SR® should be done at least two to three times daily for best results.

Drink plenty of water in order to keep your skin moisturized and supple.

Tip # 2.

Don’t Gain More Weight Than Recommended.

Stretch marks can be avoided for lots women who only gain the recommended amount of weight during pregnancy.. Many doctors advise that most women gain between 25 - 34 pounds. Stretch marks will more than likely develop if more weight than this is gained.

By staying within your suggested weight gain range most of your weight will be gained in your stomach. There will be minimal change in the rest of your body as most of the weight will be gained in your stomach.

Although this might be a little tough for some moms to be to do, there are many that stay within their recommended weight range resulting in fewer stretch marks.

In Conclusion

At the end of the day, roughly most of the information on avoiding stretch marks during pregnant points toward keeping your skin elastic and supple by moisturizing..

So it would appear that the top two natural ways to avoid stretch marks during pregnancy would be to keep your skin moisturized and avoid gaining weight rapidly.

Continue to use a cream or lotion designed for diminishing stretch marks if you so get them.

You should always talk with your doctor about any issues you may have.

Pregnancy Care

Posted by admin @ 6:58 pm

Pregnancy is the most serious and delicate stage involved in a woman’s life. She has to maintain a balanced and healthy diet since the growth of the baby completely depends on the mother’s diet. The initial stages of pregnancy are considered very important since the physical and mental growth of the baby takes place during the first three months. All the internal, external and nervous system is developed during this period and during the last three months the growth of the baby is rapid.

Nutritious food containing carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals, fats and proteins must be consumed by the mother to avoid complications related to the weight of the baby after birth. A balanced diet taken during the pregnancy period should include fresh fruits, vegetables, grains, meat, milk, fish and dairy products. Pregnant women must avoid canned foods, spicy foods, coffee, tea, sodas, cookies, candies, cakes, colas and sodas. Some of the essential nutrients that should be included in the regular diet are folic acid, calcium, iron, protein, Vitamin C, fiber and water.

Folic acid is the most essential nutrient during pregnancy. It is responsible for the growth of the nervous system in a baby and it prevents spine defects, brain defects and congenital heart disease. Folic acid is found in dark green leafy vegetables, citrus fruits, bread and cereals. Iron should also be included in the diet since it is responsible for the hemoglobin production. Calcium is essential for the proper development of the bones and the teeth in a baby. Thus a balanced diet has to be maintained for a normal child birth.

Acid Reflux Remedies

Posted by admin @ 6:58 pm

Acid reflux is a condition that normally occurs when the tube that takes food from the throat to the stomach is not strong enough to handle the excreted acid in the process of digestion. The acid in the stomach helps in the digestion of food. At times, this acid flows back to the stomach from the oesophagus, creating an uncomfortable condition known as a heartburn. This is normally the first manifestation of acid reflux and one should seek medical attention when this happens regularly.

Acid reflux is mainly caused when the lower oesophagus sphincter fails to block the entry of acid into the stomach causing the victim to have severe heartburns. A change in the person’s diet might help to reduce the impact of the heartburn, though in many cases, it is recommended to seek medical attention immediately. If the right treatment is not administered, it might lead to erosive oesophagus which is a result of continuous failure of prevention of the acid to flow back by the sphincter.

There are several ways in which acid reflux can be prevented. It is very important for people to watch their lifestyle. That is to say, the types of food that they eat, the time they sleep and also the amount of water they take. For people who suffer from this condition, they are advised to sleep on their left side as opposed to their right side. In case they have the habit of sleeping on their backs, they are advised to sleep with their heads elevated.

People who suffer from this condition should cultivate the culture of eating frequently but in smaller quantities. They should avoid large quantities of food all at once. This helps in the prevention of acid flowing back to the stomach from the oesophagus.

The menopausal years can be so easy for some baby boomers and others live through a nightmare as they try to come to terms with what they see as their loss.  The menopause is simply the ceasing of a woman’s ability to have children.  For some women, this ability to reproduce is all important and she goes through a form of bereavement as her body changes and she undergoes a roller coaster of emotion to try to accept her new physicality.

There is no rhyme or reason for the intensity, or otherwise, of the symptoms of the menopause in individuals.  Some are fortunate enough to experience no symptoms whatever, other than the gradual cessation of periods, while other baby boomers go through a hell of hot flushes; depression; low libido; low self esteem; insomnia; excessive itching and a plethora of other nasty side effects.

Psychological articles note that the menopause can begin in the mid thirties and continue to the late fifties or it can be ‘done and dusted’ in less than a year.  It is impossible to set a clock to the experience and many of the alternative treatments of menopausal symptoms are ineffective, causing frustration and annoyance.

Baby boomers spend a fortune on trying to minimise the effects of the menopause, some purchasing entire new wardrobes to combat the effects of hot flushes by wearing thin layers of clothing that can be easily discarded.  Some try diets that are rich in folic acid and Vitamin B12, found    to promote a lifting in spirits! Actually, psychological articles confirm a diet that includes soy, regular exercise, reduced caffeine and alcohol combined with yoga, reiki or some other relaxation program is said to help, although some put much of this down to ‘the placebo effect’.

Doctors will sometimes prescribe a course of hormone replacement therapy for a limited time, having taken into consideration his patient’s family history of heart disease and cancer, although synthetic hormones are now not so popular as estradiol or progesterone.

One of the more unpleasant side effects of the menopause is the eternal mood swing that threatens to de-rail an otherwise happy relationship between a menopausal woman and her husband of partner.  Menopausal mood swings can be intense and even violent, turning the most even tempered and sunny natured women into vicious harridans and sending the rest of the family running for cover behind the sofa.

Seeking help for the menopause should be delayed at the outset until the full affect of the symptoms are known.  Some baby boomers are able to go through the menopause without medical assistance.
